Jordan

One of 12 Arab countries situated in Asia, the Kingdom of Jordan is wedged between many of its Arab neighbors with whom it shares a moderate, dry climate. Islam is the state religion of Jordan, Arabic is the official language, and Amman is the capital. Jordan’s arid plateau suddenly reaches an elevation of 610-915m (2,000 to 3,000 feet) on the eastern shores of the Jordan River and the Dead Sea. Jordan’s main exports include cement, fruits and vegetables, fertilizers, and olive oil. The third largest exporter of phosphate in the world, Jordan also produces several other minerals, most notably potash.
